Concert Reviews
“The Fortepiano’s Delicate Power.” “Van Oort played an all-Mozart program [...] and he is very good at it. His Mozart, played with a fine sense of style and smooth technique, reached an emotional depth...” “A fortepiano in the right hands can generate a surprising dramatic power. Van Oort enhanced this power not only with a careful sense of dynamics but also with a gift (notable particularly in slow movements) for phrasing the music like an opera singer.”
Washington, The Washington Post
“Van Oort is a splendid instrumentalist who not only managed superlative finger work but captured the atmospherics which tend to hide in the instrument until the right player comes along. Van Oort is the right player.”
Bloomington, Herald-Times
Belgium, Musica Antiqua
“Dutch fortepianist gives sparkling performance.” “The visiting Dutch fortepianist, Bart van Oort, provided an extremely fine recital at the Canberra School of Music, with playing of sparkling technical accomplishment matsched to interpretative realisations of a notable quality. It was simply the finest fortepiano playing that we have heard in Canberra in many years.”
Canberra, Canberra Times
“Pianist is a master of silence.”

(Chopin Nocturnes)
"The musical world is celebrating the birth bicentenary of Frederic Chopin, one of the greatest writers of piano music and one of the most popular composers of all time.
[…] A curious aspect of Chopin performance today is the lack of any recent development in interpretive approach. Performance scholarship has transformed the way Bach, Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven and Schubert are played yet, despite considerable interest in Chopin and his music, performance styles remain largely unchanged. Listening to these three recordings of the nocturnes, I heard no discernable development in approach from Rubinstein in 1936 to Freire and Yundi today.
[…] Also of note is a recording released several years ago by Dutch fortepianist Bart van Oort who takes a refreshingly improvisatory approach throughout the nocturnes, using Chopin's additional material, sometimes creating his own ornamentation and performing on original Pleyel and Erard pianos from Chopin's day. Recordings such as this are the exception."

(Mozart Complete works for fortepiano)
Fortepianist Bart van Oort did a wildly impressive job with the complete sonatas, variations, and miscellaneous works of Mozart. He also captivates in those works which Mozart composed on some of his off-days. It is a beautiful collection which also includes the works for two pianists that van Oort recorded earlier with Ursula Dütschler for Kruidvat. Van Oort lays out his artistic credos in a tastefully designed booklet.
